Walmart Plans to Open Grocery Store in Former Nob Hill Location

After more than 50 plans were submitted to Pleasanton by an Arkansas based firm, nothing formally labeled Walmart as the grocer until the fire protection plan contained ‘Walmart’ on the building plan. For the past year Walmart has been rumored to be the retailer and most people agreed it would be Walmart.
Since March 2010 the 34,000sf. building which was home to Nob Hill has remained vacant. Having a new retailer will bring needed life to the shopping center.
One of the main selling points to a neighborhood and one like the Pleasanton Meadows neighborhood is proximity to a grocery store. Bringing in a new neighborhood grocery store is a positive for neighborhoods in Pleasanton surrounding the proposed grocery store operated by Walmart.
Pleasanton Gateway – Safeway Shopping Center

Pleasanton Gateway located off the I-680 Bernal exit and anchored by Safeway has some new residents since opening last month. Latest construction at the Bernal Ave. entrance will be a 4,600sf. building for Wells Fargo Bank. Also included in the Pleasanton Gateway Center are Union Bank, Panda Express, Baja Fresh, Habit Burger Grill, Bagel Cafe, Sport Clips, Great Clips, UPS Store and Savings Cleaners.
Developers are currently in talks with three other tenants and two large restaurants which will occupy the ends of the two buildings at the corner of Valley Ave. and Bernal Ave. These two locations will allow for outside dining for the restaurants.

Safeway Opens New Lifestyle Supermarket November 18th at 8:00am

It may not be the most exciting news of the year, but after watching the construction at Valley and Bernal for the past year, it is exciting to see whats new. Plus we can finally move through the construction site a bit faster.
This new lifestyle supermarket will be Safeway’s second in Pleasanton where it is also home to its corporate headquarters in the Hacienda Business Park. This new retail area is known at Pleasanton Gateway and will eventually have a gas station on site, similar to the Safeway in Dublin. The new Safeway will be nearly twice the size of the Santa Rita Safeway and will have expanded meats, seafood, bakery and wine sections as well as a larger organic department.
Included is the new Pleasanton Gateway development is a McDonalds, a restaurant, retail stores, two banks and a salon. We are still holding on for Chipotle!
We can all agree that more parks in Pleasanton will increase Pleasanton Home values. It’s one of those things that adds to the value of a Pleasanton neighborhood and the entire town. Staples Ranch in Pleasanton is a 124 Acre development off Interstate 580 and El Charro of which 17 Acres will be a community park.
In addition to the park at Staples Ranch in Pleasanton the following will also be included:
- 37 Acre Auto Mall (Pleasanton Auto Mall)
- 46 Acre Senior Care Community (Stoneridge Creek)
- 11 Acre Commercial/Retail
- 5 Acre Neighborhood Park with Storm Basin
- Don’t Forget the San Jose Sharks Ice Rink

Downtown Pleasanton is a great place to get great food, relax outside Tully’s and enjoy street parties and concerts in the park. Downtown Pleasanton is a great place, ill say it again! So whats coming to some of the vacant buildings…
Kolln Hardware building
Dallas based Comerica Bank will be the main tenant and plans to open in earl 2009, a yogurt shop will occupy the building, and there are three retail spaces available on the bottom floor and either two retail or office spaces on the second floor.

Coffee Beans and Bistro
Baci Cafe owner Michael Hughes is opening a second restaurant called Cafe Main and will specialize in high-end pizza, burgers and fresh seafood.

Domus Building
The Downtown Association will not say who has expressed an interest in this building, but they did say they expect a tenant by the holidays ’08.
Downtown Pleasanton for most is a destination for shopping, restaurants and place to relax outside of the home or office, so what is really needed in Downtown Pleasanton…? More restaurants, coffee shops, retail or is there something Downtown Pleasanton is missing?
